Children's Painterly Portraiture

This is one of the many options available to parents who choose TS Gallant Photography. It’s called "Painterly” because it is meant to resemble painted portraits from the old masters, such as in the Renaissance era. It should beg the question “is it a photograph or is it a painting”? It’s a beautiful art form, and honestly a personal favorite.

It’s easier to get more variety and even more complicated scenarios with older children. As it was, for today’s session, I was working with a three-year-old. It’s very important for a photographer not to push kids this age, and to listen to the cues that they are done. That sometimes (often, actually) means not getting all the images you hoped to but, children are way more important. These are formative years and you never want to traumatize a child or make them afraid to be photographed. Luckily, this little lady was a real trooper and had a lot of fun.
